Summary
Our saga begins over ten years after the bloody Meiji Revolution that marked the end of the rule of the Shogun and the Samurai in Japan.

In Tokyo, where swords have been banned, Kaoru bumps into the wandering Kenshin while looking for the man that is tarnishing the name of her fencing school. This proves to be the beginning of a long, exciting adventure for her... the beginning of a journey with a master swordsman that wields a reverse-bladed sword whose skills are only rivaled by the weight of his heart.

Now the adventure starts as we are thrust into an era long gone, not only of blades and duels, but where honor and reputation were still a persons most prized possessions.

Giancarlo81 wrote: By far the best anime ever to come around since Dragonball. And Yes, I do mean all of Dragonball! As tough as Dragonball is to beat, this series beats it in only 95 episodes. Strong words, right? Well check it out and see. Really see through it and you'll see the beauty that we all see in this series.
P.S. - Stranded Island? YUP, this would be "The 1." It would be hard to carry all of Dragonball with me. LOL

The fighting is more detailed and technical than most animes too. (For example... say... the one about that white-haired half-demon?) Very impressive, from a historical and intellectual perspective. Kenshin has wonderful depth (and he kicks butt too). He's totally become my favorite anime character of all times. The one wrinkle is that the atmosphere is just so light-hearted. (I mean, this is a bloody samurai epic, not some episode of Full House! But they just keep laughing...) I haven't finished the series yet, but I intend too. I'm definately going to remember this one long after Madlax and Elfin Lied have slipped from my memory.
